The latest version of the ASTM D6866 standard method is now available for download at the ASTM International website. Details on the changes are found in the redline version of the standard. Redline versions allow readers to easily spot additions, deletions, and other changes when comparing the active and previous versions. The revised standard was finalized in April 2011. Read More

Beta Analytic, Inc., will showcase its ISO 17025-accredited lab's services at the 8th World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing, which starts May 8, 2011. Martin Tesini, the company's Operations Manager for Latin America/Iberian Peninsula, will take charge of Beta Analytic's tabletop display at the exhibit hall and would welcome any inquiries on biobased or renewable carbon content measurements. Andrew Pal, Beta Analytic's Operations Manager for India, was one of the presenters at the 5th Global Fuels Conference for cement and lime held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr. Pal, who is also the company's Deputy Manager for Southeast Asia, talked about measuring the renewable carbon content of alternative fuels and their combustion emissions via ASTM D6866 method. ASTM D6866 lab Beta Analytic Inc. has submitted a public comment on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rule for the deferral of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from bioenergy and other biogenic sources. The company is recommending to the EPA that stationary sources combusting mixed fuels use ASTM D6866 testing to accurately measure their biogenic CO2 emissions. With respect to alternative fuels, the company has pointed out that sewage sludge is not 100% biomass. Read More

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a contract to ASTM International to take charge of biobased product certification for its BioPreferred Labeling Program. On its website, ASTM International has provided details for interested parties who want to apply to the program.
