CEN Releases Another Technical Specification for Biobased Products

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) Technical Committee CEN/TC 411 has published CEN/TS 16640:2014: Biobased Products – Determination of the biobased carbon content of products using the radiocarbon method. CEN had previously published technical specifications also based on the radiocarbon content of biobased materials.

USDA Resumes Processing of BioPreferred Labeling Program Applications

On July 10, 2013, the USDA has started accepting applications for its BioPreferred Labeling Program, which was suspended early this year due to lack of funding. The USDA has also added 10 new biobased product categories for preferred Federal procurement. There are now 97 designated categories representing about 10,000 unique types of products.

ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited biobased content testing laboratory Beta Analytic has recently opened an office in Taipei City to better serve product manufacturers in Taiwan. Clients can now be billed in Taiwan Dollar (TWD) through this office. The option to pay in US Dollars (USD) is still available through the Miami headquarters.

ISO Publishes Radiocarbon-Based Standard for Carbon Dioxide Emissions

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published an air-quality standard for measuring the ratio between biogenic and fossil-derived carbon dioxide emissions from stationary sources. The standard is called ISO 13833:2013, Stationary source emissions — Determination of the ratio of biomass (biogenic) and fossil-derived carbon dioxide — Radiocarbon sampling and determination.

Beta Analytic Maintains ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited Status

US EPA sets Biobased Diesel Volume for 2013 at 1.28 Billion Gallons

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established the amount of bio-diesel products required to be included in diesel fuel markets in 2013. Biobased diesel products are advanced bio-fuels that are derived from sources that include vegetable oils and wastes oils from renewable sources.
