The presentation will include a discussion on radiocarbon production in the atmosphere and integration into biological matter, carbon-14 variability in the recent past due to anthropogenic influences and the deep past due to solar cycles, and variability in C14 dating uncertainty due to wiggles within the radiocarbon curve.
Dr. Pauly will also talk about what types of samples can be radiocarbon dated and share recommendations on sample selection and preparation. Any questions on recommended containers for specific samples and proper packing are welcome during the live webinar.
Dr. Pauly is a paleoclimatologist who obtained her PhD in Natural Sciences at the Freie Universität Berlin. She previously completed her Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees at the University of Waterloo in Canada. She has research experience on reconstructing climate from modern corals and subfossil tree-rings. She is currently a part-time lecturer at Bath Spa University.
