ISO has published a series of standards focused on the biobased carbon content in rubber and rubber products, including polyurethanes. The published standards are:
ISO 19984-1 Rubber and rubber products — Determination of biobased content — Part 1: General principles and calculation methods using formulation
ISO 19984-2 Rubber and rubber products — Determination of biobased content — Part 2: Biobased carbon content
ISO 19984-3 Rubber and rubber products — Determination of biobased content — Part 3: Biobased mass content
These ISO standards are applicable only to rubber and rubber products which are made from biobased or fossil-based constituents. ISO 19984 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 45, Subcommittee SC 2.
ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited Beta Analytic provides biobased content testing as described under ISO 19984-2. The lab uses accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) to determine the biobased carbon content of rubber and rubber products.
Beta Analytic routinely reports results in 5-7 business days with online reporting, technical consultation, and quality assurance reports included. A priority service is available for results required in 4 business days or less.
