In an article published in Personal Care Europe magazine, Beta Analytic highlighted the use of biobased testing to screen cosmetic ingredients claiming to be 100% naturally sourced. Beta Analytic’s Marketing Specialist Haley Gershon discussed the rising consumer preference for “natural” cosmetic items, global initiatives to ban microbeads in personal care products, and biobased testing as an analytical tool to identify the presence of petrochemical-derived ingredients in cosmetics.
Biobased testing, through carbon-14 analysis, creates transparency within the cosmetics industry by allowing manufacturers and distributors to authenticate product and ingredient label claims while complying with regulations such as the United States Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to avoid misbranding of products.
